Linux Compatible Online Poker
Looking to play some free online poker on Linux? Check out: Linux Online Poker - they have written a good amount of information on the subject!

There are so many free linux compatible poker rooms it's hard to choose just one - some of them even offer Holdem Black Jack. My personal favorite linux poker sites are linux online poker as well as another great Linux room called linux poker. Hey now, you can't win them all... but you can certainly try can you not?
Blinds are 160/320, and I pick up QQ UTG.
I raise to 640, and the button is the only caller. The flop is J96, two suits. I bet out 320, and he cold calls. The turn is my third Q. I bet out 640, he cold calls again. The river is a T, I bet out my last 330 since I'm obviously pot committed, and he calls with K8 for a runner runner straight. C'mon!!!
Is there anything I could've done here to avoid losing? Bet harder with my overpair/set?

What was your stack and his stack? Looks like you could have bet higher on teh flop.. like around the pot size since u bet 640 preflop. Or was this limit poker?

The call preflop is ok.. In a tournament, you want to knock out people and these hands do it when shorthanded and the blinds are high.. That is why i asked how much his stack was... If that guy was the chipleader, he's gonna make loose calls to knock u out unless you bet him out

I think he was being sarcastic, man.
The guy was the chip leader with around 3500-4000, I think. I was in second with around 2000. I wouldn't even think about calling the flop bet if I was him. He's clearly an idiot in my eyes.

No doubt.. total idiot for calling past the flop and turn.. But he wanted to knock you out.. Betting around the pot or 1/3 of his stack on the flop or turn probably would have made him fold.

I've learned my lesson; never tangled with the big stack especially if he's an idiot player.
By the way, the hand that really built his stack up was A6offsuit. He hit two pair and made a boat with it on two different occasions. He wasn't in either of the blind by the way.

Sorry, but I think the guy who knocked me out of a Paradise $10 NL multi the other day gets the idiot of the week award.
It's only the 2nd level of the tournament and the blinds are 15/30. I still have about 1400 chips. I have this moron just barely covered. I too had picked up QQ. I'm in MP and it's folded to me. I raise it up to 150 and get three callers. The flop was x5x-with two clubs. Both of the x's were higher than 5, but they are of no matter. All rags, a great flop for QQ I think. Unless somebody slowplayed AA or KK (which has happened to me) I have the green light. I lead out for 500 and get one caller. The turn is another rag but it put a third club on the board. I bet 500 again, and again he calls. The river is the Kc. I'm getting the feeling I'm screwed, but I'm pot committed. If I check, I'm sure he's gonna bet, so I just move all in. He calls. I c
ouldn't believe what this asshole showed me. He had the Ac5s and knocked me down to 90 chips by rivering the nut flush. Sure his pre-flop call was idiotic, but his call on the flop is what really takes the cake. This retard called down 1/3 of his stack with bottom pair/top kicker and a backdoor flush draw(2:1 pot odds on a 4:1 draw to hit two pair or trips). I mean you gotta wonder what these people are thinking, if they even think at all. The only correct thing this moron did, and I'm sure it was quite by accident was call my turn bet. With 14 outs (9 flush cards, 2 fives, and three aces) he was a 2.3:1 dog to beat my queens, and the pot was laying him slightly over 4:1.
Boy was I steamed, I was down to 90 chips and there were still over 300 players left in the tournament. I just typed "lucky" and I got this comment yet again- "It's your on fault stupid, you kept on betting." Do these people get these lines from some book or something? I had some other moron say almost the exact same thing when he rivered a two outer and beat my pocket kings. Excuse me? Since when is betting with the best hand stupid? And calling a huge bet with bottom pair is genius poker.
Very next hand I get 44, I'm so steamed, and at this point know I have no chance, I move all in and nearly the whole table calls. As luck would have it, Mr "any ace in a race" ended up winning this pot too and knocking me out in 331st.

ROFL!
Did you have the Queen of clubs? If not, the beat could have been a bit worse, like if he had 22 including the club deuce.

Okay you said it right there, the guy got his big stack by winning by accident. So you have expect him to play the same from that point on. There was probably nothing you could do. I suspect the monkey would have called an all in bet on the flop.

Reelishymn-
Preflop raise was way too small, IMO. With QQ there are many hands that could possibly beat you if you let them draw to a card. You want to win that hand without seeing a flop. I would have raised much more pre-flop. The game is no-limit. Use that to your advantage instead of making a smallish raise that does nothing but put $$ in the pot.

I read both posts about losing with QQ and do not understand one thing: in both cases QQ made everything to lose the pot - so no surprise they did lose it. QQ is just one pair, flop is three rags, very good, but only you have is one pair.
So your bet should be ALL IN, not $300, not $500,
just ALL IN. That's the key. Regarding QQ that lost to A5 - A5 made a bad call pre-flop, but after flop played absolutely correctly while QQ played wrong, so the question regarding who is the idiot is still open. If you show him your queens - than right - his call would be stupid, but out of you two only you know that you have QQ, he does not. So A5 had a pair on the flop + back door nuts flush draw. He checked and faced a relativel
y small bet. So what he should assume ? Very simple - he assume that he may be beat you right away, so he calls. Turn give him 4-cards nuts flush draw, at this point he is commited and called again absolutely correctly. And get totally deserved club on the river.

i have to agree with the last post about bob's queens...you raised with QQ hit a decent flop and didnt even make a pot sized bet...your bet was almost one of wanting action (almost like flopping a set and wanting to keep them in the hand) instead of trying to take it down right there or getting someone to make a bad call for most if not all of his chips....i dont like that type of betting when there's that many players in the hand, you want to drive them out b/c if they continue to stick around one will eventually outdraw you....when im playing at PP and that happens at the NL200's...for example, say i raise to $20 preflop with QQ and i get 4way action and the flop is rags...and i feel i still have the best hand...im gonna come out and overbet the pot after a flop like that b/c #1 i want to take it down right there...#2 if they are gonna chase they are gonna have to pay significantly do to it....NiHeraNeSsu was 100% when he said its just a pair of queens...in most cases sometimes the flop will be like 2510 and somewith who called with A10 will call your all in or monster bet and you will take a nice pot...
Pokerstars will soon deal its .5 billionth hand and they are giving away some money. I remember when pokerroom had a promotion for one of its milestone hands. They announced the day and time they expected to deal the big one.
My question is: when is PS going to deal the .5 billionth hand, worth several tens of thousands of dollars? It's just a matter of figuring out the average number of hands dealt per hour, but I want to go to sleep right now, so....will someone else do it?
chop chop! I want an answer when I wake up.
Of course if everyone is just as lazy as moi, i suppose I'll try to figure it out tomorrow. In that case I will post my guess here.

Your odds of winning that are like the odds of you winning the lottery. You're more likely to get struck by lightning first.
But yeah, Good luck with that!

disagree.
let's say that on average there are 10,000 hands dealt between consecutive hands on one table. If you are playing at the time the big hand is dealt, then you have a 1/10,000 chance of being dealt into the hand. If you are playing 5 tables at the time then you have nearly a 1/2,000 chance of being in the big hand.
I believe 10,000 hands is a rather high estimate and I probably could have more like 10 tables open at once, so this is a conservative estimate.
I have been alive 7,670 days and not once been struck by lightning. Am I way over do then?!! shizit!

Max, agree with you entirely.
I figure 1500 tables going at once. Say you get onto 10 of them. That's one chance in 150 already. But you forget that you get a prize for 10 hands, not just 1!
They give you something for each of the following hands (last one is best of course!):
499,999,100
499,999,200
499,999,300
...
500,000,000
So if you manage to get yourself onto ten tables at about the right time, I think the chances are much better than you would think originally.
But this of cours
e assumes that .50/1.00 table can get than hand as well as 30/60...

It's actually hands:
499,000,000
499,100,000
499,200,000
...
but yeah, I'm gonna try to be there for them.

Great. Hopefully I'll be home from work by then.
No, of course I don't think I'll actually win, but I'll take any excuse I can get to play more poker....
Has anyone (Huskerfan?) noticed if it has made any difference what stakes have been played? What type of table was the one that hit twice?
Conspiracy theory aside, a table with just two people has a much better chance of hitting the correct hand number, since they play 5 times as many hands that way as a full table. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they were just folding the blinds back and forth to each other, intentionally trying to hit it.... Pretty sure there is no rake when you do that. Crap, glad I am thinking of this now, while I am at work and can't do anything about it.....
Of course, if you do find somebody doing this, screw the bonus, get on there and steal their blinds!!!
There's always an angle....

they just delt it...winning table was playing .50/$1 holdem....they stopped the action for a few minutes...
it was shorthanded table of 6....everyone at the table gets $1000 and $2600 buying to the wcoop main event...the winner gets `10K and buyin to ALL the WCOOPS events ($7500)...needless to say it was capped the whole way...
ironically enough the guy who won was like ALL IN after the flop...the winner of the side pot didnt get anything except the 1K.....the pot was like $50 total LOL
i had 2 tables i was playing at inside the last 100 hands but no luck....

Good updates, Huskerfan. I knew I would get home too late. Nice to see it was a somewhat legit (and low stakes) table that won it. And I got to agree wholeheartedly with iceecubez, I'm taking 72 to the river for that kind of money, no matter what.
